Mobile team in the central highlands
The ENV Mobile Unit and Volunteer Network have had five busy days carrying out a wide range of activities in Pleiku City focused on raising awareness and encouraging public participation in efforts to protection wildlife.
Activities included hosting bear protection events at the Gia Lai Pedagogical College, and a seminar program on wildlife trade for more than 540 students and teachers. The mobile team also held recruitment meetings for volunteers from the provincial Youth Union, Pleiku Youth Union and students from University of Agriculture and Forestry, Gia Lai branch, followed by training and surveys of businesses in the area to monitor compliance with wildlife protection laws. Violations were documented at approximately 50% of the businesses surveyed.
Public events were held at the Pleiku Coopmart attracting many local residents, and a total of about 1,500 pledges not to use bear bile were collected during the mobile team’s visit to Pleiku.
