Ho Chi Minh City: Otters and monitor lizards rescued

In March 2010, an ENV Volunteer Network member notified ENV of a link on a website advertising wildlife animals for sale, such as otters, Vietnamese pond turtles (Mauremys annamensis), keeled box turtles (Cuora mouhotii), impressed tortoises (Manouria impressa), elongated tortoises (Indotestudo elongate), Indochinese box turtles (Cuora galbinifrons) and many others. Throughout the investigation process, ENV staff worked closely with the Ho Chi Minh Environmental Police and finally in October, the smuggling ring was intercepted and a smuggler arrested, and four Oriental small-clawed otters (Ambloynyx cinerea) and two monitor lizards (Varanus sp.) were rescued and transferred to the Cu Chi Rescue Center. The link on the website was later deleted.
