Dong Xuan Market Shop-owners Agree Not to Sell Wildlife

Dong Xuan Market Campaign

Efforts to shut down the illegal sale of wildlife at Hanoi’s Dong Xuan Market have shown early signs of success after regular market inspections in October and November have indicated that wildlife is no longer openly sold in the market.

The Dong Xuan Market initiative was part of a campaign organized in August, under joint direction with the Dong Xuan Market Management Board, the Hanoi Forest Protection Branch, and ENV.   Following efforts to inform shop owners and market inspectors about the law and raise their awareness about wildlife protection efforts, FPD rangers secured commitments from the businesses not to sell wildlife.  The shop-owner commitments were backed by continued market monitoring and enforcement action, aimed at preventing a resurgence of illegal activity.

ENV is expanding its market campaign to other wildlife hotspots.
