ENV Wildlife Crime Bulletin (December 2008)
This edition of ENV”s Wildlife Crime Bulletin provides information and analysis of efforts to combat wildlife crime in Vietnam over the period of July to December 2008. It is distributed to enforcement agencies throughout Vietnam. The feature story in this edition examines the issue of auctioning off wildlife and the effects of this practice on the wildlife trade. As usual our case log section provides an account of many of the cases for which the ENV Wildlife Crime Unit has tracked over the period including cases in which public participation has played a critical role.

November 19, 2008 - Press Release: Public urged to take active role to end illegal bear trade
A new public service announcement (PSA) airing on national TV promotes the protection of Vietnam’s bears by encouraging the public not to use bear bile and to report wildlife crimes to local authorities.
The 30-second advertisement, produced by Education for Nature – Vietnam (ENV), features a businessman and junior staff member in a café. The older businessman orders bear bile wine, but the junior staff member decides to take a stand by refusing the wine. The PSA encourages the public to report wildlife crimes to local authorities or to ENV on the national toll-free Wildlife Crime Hotline 1-800-1522.

November 11, 2008 - Press Release: Green Grants spread environmental education across in Vietnam
Protected area staff from seven national parks and nature reserves in Vietnam have been awarded ‘Green Grants’ as part of the Education for Nature - Vietnam (ENV) and Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) joint project ‘GO GREEN - for the Preservation of Nature’. The ‘Green Grants’ will provide financial support for the recipients to carry out environmental education and awareness programs in and around the protected areas in which they work.

Education for Nature - Vietnam (ENV) has just released the 28th issue of the popular student nature magazine, Green Forest. In this latest issue, student readers have the opportunity to learn about green energy and how the power of sun and wind can provide unlimited and environmentally-friendly sources of energy. Featured wildlife species include the fabulous dugong of Phu Quoc and the scaly pangolin.
September 17, 2008 - Press Release: Toyota Vietnam and ENV launch Go Green Program - Nature presevation
Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) in collaboration with Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV) have organized a 10-day training course (from 5-14 Sep, 2008) at ENV’s National Education Training Centre in Tam Dao National Park. The training program taught twelve representatives from six national parks and nature reserves across Vietnam about raising awareness and educating the community about environmental protection. This is the second training course of this type to be held this year.
30 July, 2008 - Press Release: PSA "Bear bile 100% cruel. Open your eyes to the truth."
A 30-second public service announcement (PSA) highlighting the cruel nature of bear bile extraction and calling for action from public has been produced by Ogilvy and Mather, a leading international advertising and public relations agency, in support of ENV’s campaign to end the illegal exploitation of bears in Vietnam.

ENV has released a Vietnamese language narrated version of a film produced by the International Tiger Coalition highlighting the critical importance of maintaining the ban on commercial trade of tigers in China.
