Hanoi: Subject trading wildlife trade prosecuted

On November 24, 2011, ENV received a report of wildlife trade activities occurring in Ba Dinh district. ENV immediately transferred the information to Hanoi Environmental Police (EP). Unfortunately, when EP checked the site, all reported wildlife including a loris, macaque and turtle had been sold. After investigation, the subject was found to be a resident of Dong Anh district. On January 4, 2012, EP caught the subject illegally trading wildlife and confiscated a leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis), a pygmy loris (Nycticebus pygmaeus) and 10 keeled box turtles (Cuora mouhotii) in Ba Dinh district. The animals will be transferred to a rescue center and the subject is facing prosecution.
