Hanoi: Macaque rescued successfully

On December 17, 2011, a foreigner contacted ENV to report that there was a stump-tailed macaque (Macaca arctoides) being kept in a motorbike repair shop in Dong Da district, Hanoi. ENV immediately transferred the information to the local FPD. The owner was found to have kept the macaque illegally for two years. On December 20, after being persuaded by the FPD and local authorities, the owner voluntarily handed over the macaque to authorities. The macaque was subsequently transferred to Hanoi Zoo.

(Case Ref. 3881/ENV)
