Danang: Turtle advertised on the Internet

On October 24, 2011, after receiving information about a turtle advertised on the Internet in Danang City, ENV immediately contacted authorities to report the case. On October 28, Danang Environmental Police in co-operation with ENV inspected and caught the subject when he was attempting to sell the turtle on Han River Bridge. The Indochinese box turtle (Cuora galbinifrons) was confiscated and then transferred to the Cuc Phuong Turtle Conservation Center. The subject was fined VND 3 million.

Indochinese box turtles belong to Index II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. All illegal shipments of wildlife in this index will be treated as are those in Group IIB, Decree 32/2006/ND-CP – the group of endangered, rare and precious animals for which exploitation or trade is restricted.
