Quang Binh: Macaque transferred to Phong Nha – Ke Bang NP
On July 14, an Assamese macaque (Macaca assamensis), weighing approximately 3 kg was transferred to Phong Nha – Ke Bang NP by the FPD of Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province. A volunteer called the ENV hotline to inform them that the macaque was being kept at a local residence. ENV contacted local FPD who immediately investigated and rescued the animal.
Assamese macaque belongs to group IIB of Decree 32/ND-CP - the group of rare wild animals restricted to be in captivity, hunted, traded or killed.
