Binh Phuoc: A sun bear transferred to Cat Tien NP
On July 7, a 25kg Malayan sun bear (Helarctos malayanus) was transferred to Cat Tien NP by Binh Phuoc authorities. A resident called the ENV hotline to inform them that the bear was being kept at the house of the chief of Bu Dop district Forest Protection Department (FPD). ENV contacted to local FPD and learned that this bear had been confiscated on May 20 and they were looking for a rescue center to transfer it. ENV informed the case to Cat Tien NP who immediately received the animal. However, the subject escaped.
