Happy week of macaques

This week really belongs to the macaques with a lot of good information about them. Firstly, two macaques kept at two pagodas in Hue were released back into the wild by the monks at these pagodas. A volunteer called the ENV hotline to inform them that the macaques were being kept at the pagodas. ENV contacted local authorities who immediately investigated and persuaded the monks to release the animals.

Another macaque seized at a residence by Hue FPD was being kept at a local FPD awaiting release back into the wild. This case was also called in to the ENV hotline by volunteers and the information transferred to local FPD who rescued the animals.
(Case ref 3283/ENV)

In addition, on 17 June, a three-month-old macaque was released back into the wild by Vinh city’s FPD. A volunteer had discovered and informed the ENV hotline that the macaques had been blatantly advertised on the internet by a person in Vinh city.  ENV contacted local authorities who immediately confiscated the animal.
(Case ref 3512/ENV)

Three macaques kept at a fishing pond in Gia Lam district were confiscated by the Hanoi FPD. A volunteer informed ENV of the situation and the information was passed on to the FPD who rescued the animals. One of the three macaques was dead and the remaining two were seized and transferred to Soc Son Rescue Center.
