Launch of ENV Wildlife Club in Hanoi
On January 22, the 4th club belonging to ENV’s Volunteer Network - the Wildlife Club in Hanoi (WiC-HN) - will be officially launched at the Hanoi University of Science, part of the Vietnam National University. The club was established to assist ENV’s Wildlife Crime Unit in reporting and monitoring wildlife trade activities, and to contribute to stopping the illegal trade of wildlife. The creation of the WiC-HN demonstrates the active and direct participation of the public and the responsibility that Vietnam’s young people are taking for the protection of the natural environment.
In 2010, three clubs were established in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang City and Thua Thien-Hue province by ENV. The clubs are locally run and receive support in the way of training, resources, and assistance based on the activeness of their members. ENV also meets regularly with the clubs and provides club leaders with monthly lists of business establishments requiring compliance monitoring.
