Thua Thien - Hue: Illegal wildlife transportation stopped
On March 12th, 2009 the Thua Thien - Hue Provincial Police stopped a vehicle near Phu Xuan Bridge and seized 12 small Indian civets (Viverricula indica), one sunda pangolin (Manis javanica) and 45 brush-tailed porcupines (Atherurus macrourus). Some of the confiscated wildlife was dead at the time of seizure. The subjects are being held in temporary customary pending further investigation of the case.

Dac Lac:  Large number of wild animals kept illegally
On March 13th, 2009, Buon Me Thuot City Forest Protection Unit announced that they had uncovered a large quantity of wild animals being kept illegally at a resident’s house in the city. These animals included 134kg of turtles, 62kg of common rat snakes (Ptyas mucosus) and 44kg of monitor lizards (Varanus sp.).

Thanh Hoa: Illegal wildlife trader fined over 60 million VND
The Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee recently fined a man 63.8 million VND for illegally transporting wildlife including  40kg of common rat snakes (Ptyas mucosus), 18kg of Indochinese rat snakes (Ptyas korros) and one sunda pangolin (Manis javanica).

Thai Nguyen - Thua Thien-Hue: More illegal timber transportation cases discovered
On March 13th, 2009 Vo Nhai District Forest Protection Unit in Thai Nguyen province succeeded in stopping a driver of a car from illegally transporting three cubic meters of timber. Meanwhile, on March 15th, 2009 in Thua Thien-Hue, rangers from Phu Loc District confiscated eight cubic meters of timber concealed in a car.

Ha Tinh: Rangers suspended for ineffective forest management
On March 17th, 2009 the Ha Tinh Provincial Forest Protection Department announced the suspension of three rangers from the Ky Anh District Forest Protection Department for serious forest protection and management violations.

Ha Noi: Macaque transferred to wildlife rescue centre
A Hanoi resident recently discovered a stump-tailed macaque (Macaca arctoides) being kept in a shop in Thanh Tri District. The resident reported this violation to ENV’s wildlife crime hotline and information was transferred by ENV to the authorities. On March 12th, 2009 the macaque was safely transferred to Soc Son Wildlife Rescue Centre. The subjects received an administrative fine of nearly two million VND. Last month, other three macaques were also confiscated from a gas station in Thanh Tri District thanks to this resident’s timely report to Wildlife Crime Hotline.
