Illegal wildlife businesses discovered around Cat Tien National Park
On December 17th, 2008 rangers from Cat Tien National Park in cooperation with Dong Nai Police investigated and discovered a series of illegal wildlife businesses in the communes around Cat Tien National Park. The evidence, including ten long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis), twenty-eight Asian leaf turtles (Cyclemys tcheponensis), two Burmese pythons (Python molurus) and twelve bamboo rats, was confiscated for further investigation.

Quang Ninh: Five tons of pangolins confiscated
On December 19th, 2008 the Customs Department from Cai Lan Port confiscated a consignment of goods containing 900 kg of pangolin scales and 4,400 kg of frozen pangolins. The incident is still being investigated.

Quang Tri: Over 400 wild animals killed per month
In the space of one kilometer in Dakrong District there are five stands selling wild animal meat. According to one seller, one Sambar deer (Cervus unicolor), ten Small Indian civets (Viverricula indica), one porcupine and one wild pig (Sus scrofa) are sold each day. So, in this one kilometer alone, with five selling stands, there are at least 400 wild animals being killed each month.

Quang Ninh: Coal transportation blockaded
On December 23rd, 2008 50 vehicles transporting coal on the way to the port were stopped by residents in Mao Khe town in Dong Trieu District. The residents were disgruntled by the effect on their lives from the vehicles traveling at such high speed and causing significant noise and dust pollution.

Authorities catch toxic waste dumpers
On December 18th, 2008 the Dong Nai Police, in cooperation with inspectors from Department of Environment and Natural Resources, caught three lorries dumping toxic liquid waste in Long Thanh District. In another case in Long An, Four Oranges limited Company, which specializes in manufacturing paints, was found, on several occasions, to have been dumping toxic waste on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh city.

Quang Binh: Beer Company fined 14.5 million VND for illegally dumping waste
On December 15th, 2008, the Quang Binh Provincial Department of Environment and Natural Resources decided to fine the Hanoi-Quang Binh Beer Company 14.5 million VND for directly dumping waste water into the canal.

Ba Vi National Park carry out EE project after receiving Green Grant
Thanks to a ‘Green Grant’ awarded as part of the Education for Nature - Vietnam (ENV) and Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) joint project “Go Green - for the Preservation of Nature”, Environmental Education Program conducted by staff from Ba Vi National Park is going well. So far Ba Vi staff have carried out six nature club meetings in two secondary schools and nine Participatory Learning Appraisal (PLA) meetings in six communes around the National Park. Ba Vi is one of seven national parks and nature reserves that received “Green Grants” as part of this program.
