More illegal timber transportation cases discovered
In Phu Yen, on 1 November 2008 Dong Hoa District Forest Protection Unit seized 14m3 of illegal timber. In another case in Dac Lac from 29 October to 4 November 2008, Police discovered and confiscated 3.6m3 of timber. In addition, in Bac Giang authorities confiscated 3.24m3 of rare timber.

Ha Tinh: Toxic wastewater in gold mining areas causes heavy pollution
For many years residents in Ky Son commune, Ky Anh district have been living in heavily polluted environments due to the dumping of toxic wastewater from gold mining into the streams and rivers.

Tuyen Quang: 122 cases of forest protection law violation
In October, Tuyen Quang Provincial Rangers discovered 122 cases of violation of the forest protection laws, in which 160m3 of timber and 119kg of wildlife were confiscated.  In total, the offenders were fined 626.4 million VND.

Ca Mau: Shrimp Processing Company blockaded
Hundreds of farmers recently gathered in front of the gate of Quoc Thanh- Viet Trung joint stock Industrial and Chemibiology Company, which specializes in manufacturing shrimp products, to prevent a transportation truck from entering the premises. The protest was a result of the residents’ dissatisfaction with living in heavily polluted environments due to acidic wastewater and the foul odor from the factory.

Ca Mau: Rare whale shark discovered dead
On 3 November 2008, a fishman in Dat Mui commune, Ngoc Hien district, discovered a dead 350kg whale shark (Rhincodon typus) floating near the shoreline.

Ha Noi: Poached wildlife products will be displayed in National Museum
About three tons of wildlife products seized from poachers, including tusks, shells, horns, skin and bones will be put on display at the Vietnam National Museum of Nature.
