Ha Noi: Man held in custody for illegally trading tiger bones
On October 7th, 2008, Dong Da police caught a man transporting dried tiger bones. The man is being held in custody for two months pending a decision on the case.

Ninh Thuan: Proceedings commence in gaur killing cases
Ninh Thuan’s Police have recently commenced proceedings against five people were being for the killing of a large gaur in Phuoc Binh forest in Bac Ai commune. In another case in Lam Dong authorities have also commenced proceedings against two people for illegally transporting a large gaur head which was confiscated by rangers from Biduop - Nui Ba National Park on October 14th, 2008.

More wildlife trade cases discovered
Quang Binh’s Mobile Forest Ranger Unit recently seized 557kg of wildlife concealed in a lorry. The evidence was confiscated and the driver was fined 170 million VND. In another case in Hai Duong a driver was caught transporting 361kg of pangolins. Also, on October 24th, 2008 in Dac Lac, a resident was caught with 117kg of fresh wildlife meat and 35kg of frozen wildlife meat.

Tay Nguyen: Central Highlands will ‘die’ from bauxite exploitation
A program of the Vietnam Coal and Minerals Industries Group (Vinacomin) which is mining bauxite ore to produce and refine aluminum in the Central Highlands has received serious criticism from scientists and environmentalists.

Dong Nai: Waste Treatment Company blockaded
On October 27th, 2008 over ten households in Trang Dai Street gathered at the front of the waste treatment company’s gate to prevent a waste transportation truck from entering the premises. The protest was a result of the residents’ discontent with living in heavily polluted environments due to substandard waste water treatment system and the foul odor from the company dumping garbage.
