Lam Dong:  Two people caught illegally transporting wildlife
On October 14th, 2008 rangers from Biduop - Nui Ba National Park caught two people carrying a large gaur head, dried gaur skin and monkey bones. The evidence has been transferred to the Lac Duong Provincial Police for further investigation.

Da Nang: Oil spill in Da Nang Bay 
On October 16th, 2008 an oil spill occurred as a result of a landslide that was triggered by heavy rain. The landslide caused the collapse of an embankment wall protecting Vinapco’s fuel warehouse which in turn caused two oil container tanks to crack.  An estimated 2,000m3 of oil spilled into the sea.

Nha Trang Bay: Heavy pollution around the Bay
The environment around Nha Trang Bay is heavily polluted due to illegal construction and the dumping of garbage and waste water.

More illegal timber transportation cases discovered
On the 20th and 21st of October, 2008 Binh Duong Provincial Environment Police have uncovered four cases of timber being illegally transported.  In another case in Da Nang on October 20th, 2008, 12 enterprises were found to have been illegally trading in forest products and 20m3 of timber was confiscated.

Ha Tinh:  Fake government number plate used to illegally transport timber
On October 16th, 2008 Huong Khe Forest Protection Unit, in cooperation with Market Control Unit apprehended the owner of a car that was found to have been using a fake government number plate to transport 100 timber slats.  The timber was confiscated and the car’s owner was fined six million VND.

Fined 30 million VND for illegally keeping wildlife
Thanks to a member of the public’s report to the ENV hotline, the owner of a business in Trung Van commune, Tu Liem district, Ha Noi has been fined 30 million VND for illegally keeping wildlife including one Asiatic black bear ( Selenarctos thibetanus) and two Pig-tailed macaques (Macaca leonina). The animals were confiscated and transferred to Soc Son Wildlife Rescue Center.

ENV Mobile Awareness Unit travels to Central Highlands
During the last two weeks of October, the ENV Mobile Education Team has been carrying out a major mission to the Central Highlands of Vietnam. First stop on the trip was to Kon Ka Kinh National Park to provide additional training to rangers in delivering environment lesson plans. The team also conducted a wildlife trade seminar for 200 students from Gia Lai Teacher Training College.  Volunteer students from the College then joined the team to conduct a wildlife trade survey in Pleiku city. On their way back to Hanoi the mobile team will host a wildlife trade seminar for local government officers in Quang Tri Province and another university program and trade survey for students of Quang Tri Teacher Training College
