Tay Ninh: Reticulated python released back into forest
Local police released a reticulated python (Python reticulatus) reportedly caught in the area surrounding Lo Go Xa Mat National Park back into the forest. Reticulated pythons are protected under group IIB of Decree 32.

Quang Binh: Large amount of illegal timber confiscated
Environmental Police, in collaboration with local rangers, confiscated a large amount of illegal timber in the area of Thuong Hoa Commune, Minh Hoa District. The total amount added up to 521 boxes with over 58m3 of timber.

Hanoi: People rewarded for reporting illegal dumping
A reward is being offered by Hanoi Traffic and Transportation Department for people who report illegal dumping. The amount of reward will vary depending on the evidence that people can provide.

Nghe An: Wild elephants terrify local residents
People in two villages in Phuc Son Commune, Anh Son District fear a herd of elephants including four individuals in search of food may attack. However, the local authorities have not come up with any timely solutions to ensure the safety of the concerned people as well as protecting the elephants.

Can Tho: Wildlife face risk of exhaustion
In many areas of Can Tho Province, wildlife of various types like snakes, turtles and monitor lizards, are being traded publicly and regularly. This poor law enforcement is blamed on the fact that Can Tho has not founded a separate functional agency to fully take charge of those responsibilities.

Ho Chi Minh: Ba Bo canal seriously polluted – authorities evade responsibility
Ba Bo canal in the area of Binh Chieu Ward, Thu Duc District, has been seriously polluted for many years, resulting in significant effects on local people’s lives. However, the authorities have demonstrated little effort and have failed to take responsibility in solving the problems.

Marine environment severely polluted
The marine environment is being severely polluted as the result of many human activities such as waste dumping, oil spills and sand exploitation. Strict penalties against marine environment destruction activities are suggested to be the solution to the existing problems according to environmental experts.

Thousands of people pledge to protect bears at Big C Shopping Center
On July 19 and 20, 2008, ENV continued its bear campaign in the Big C shopping center. Shoppers were encouraged to sign pledge cards demonstrating their commitment not to use bear bile or consume products made from bear. The total number of people who have signed pledges has reached 8.000 so far. The weekend campaign was part of the new campaign by ENV to enlist public support in the effort to end bear farming and trade in Vietnam.
