Ban on vehicles not meeting new exhaust fume standards
From the 1st of July, 2008, a ban on vehicles not meeting new exhaust fume standards will come into force on a national scale. In accordance with this standard, vehicles will be inspected periodically.

Measures against establishments causing severe environmental pollution
On 5th June, 2008, Directive number 17/2008/CT-TTG regarding urgent measures to intensify the strict penalties against establishments responsible for severe pollution was issued by the Prime Minister. The directive is in accordance with Decision 64/2003/QĐ-TTG which sets the goal of strict penalties against 439 establishments causing severe environmental pollution by 2007 and with the target of no such offences by 2012.

Cat Ba National Park: Ecosystem diversity threatened
Cat Ba National Park (Hai Phong City) is originally known as the home to many plants and wildlife. However, the ecosystem diversity there is suffering a major threat from overexploitation of wildlife and deforestation.

Cat Tien – The marvelous forest
Cat Tien in the eye of a journalist is beautifully pictured with its originality and biodiversity.  This unique forest is also noted for being the home to such rare wildlife as Java Rhinos and fresh water crocodiles.

Vietnam Red Data Book 2007 announced
On 26th June, 2008, the Vietnam Red Data Book 2007 was released with the latest data of wildlife conservation situation in Vietnam. The book reveals the number of wild plant and animal species threatened in Vietnam has increased from 725 (year 1992 – 1996) to 882 (year 2005 – 2007).

Long An: Steel company pollutes environment for ten years
Long An’s authorities recently conducted an inspection of a steel company which was reported for having caused severe environmental pollution over the course of ten years. However, the violation is still yet to have been handled satisfactorily.

“Waste Washing” – Typical occupation of polluted life
In Bac Ninh there exists a village specializing in “waste washing”, which means the collected waste being washed for recycling. However, the villagers who live where this activity occurs have to cope with the negative side of such a polluted life.
