Wildlife confiscated from the illegal trade
On March 5, 15 tons of slaughtered pangolins were discovered in two containers at Hai Phong port by Hai Phong Customs and Hai Phong Environmental Police. As with eight tons of smuggled pangolins confiscated last week, these containers had been registered as containing fresh fish, and were on their way to China from Indonesia.

Civets being killed by H5N1 in Cuc Phuong National Park
Four Owston’s civets (Chrotogale owstoni) found dead in Cuc Phuong National Park in February have tested positive for H5N1.

Illegal wildlife traders punished
On March 6, Gia Lai authorities issued an administrative fine of 60 million dong to those found responsible for the illegal trade of 271kg of wild animals last year. (Vietnamese version)

On March 11, local authorities passed a decision to take those implicated in a case involving the illegal trade of nine leopard cats, ten macaques and other wild animals in Ha Tay province to court. (Vietnamese version)

Twelve wildlife law violations in February
According to Dong Nai Forest Protection Department, February saw 26 cases involving violations of forest laws in the province. Of these, 12 cases involved violations of wildlife management regulations. Administrative fines totaling more than 38 million dong have been issued. (Vietnamese version)

Wild animals for sale in Yen Tu
Wild animals including wild pigs, turtles, common barking deer and bamboo rats have been observed being sold in wildlife restaurants and on roads in Yen Tu in Quang Ninh province, an area renowned for its numerous pagodas and religious sites. (Vietnamese version)
