Wildlife confiscated from the illegal trade
On January 25, the Ho Chi Minh Forest Protection Department working in cooperation with local Environmental Police and Ho Chi Minh Police confiscated 57.7kg of civets and 10kg of wild pigs from a local house in Ho Chi Minh city where they were being illegally kept.

On January 29, the local Forest Protection Department confiscated 92 wine jars containing snakes and tockays, as well as four monitor lizards, in Ha Tay province.

Two dead tigers incinerated in Thanh Hoa province
Two of seven tigers being illegally kept by a local resident in Thanh Hoa province were incinerated by Thanh Hoa authorities on January 28. The remaining tigers are alive, but in poor health and are under close supervision of local authorities.

Red pines being threatened in Vietnam
A cluster of red pine trees, including several aged over 100 years, in the Voi mountainous area in Lam Dong province is being threatened by harsh deforestation. These trees are being chopped down to meet the demand for statues and wooden coffins made from this timber.

Smuggled wood confiscated in Ha Tay province
Despite much resistance from the smugglers, on January 28 authorities uncovered and confiscated an illegal stash of smuggled pomu – a precious wood in Ha Tay province.
