Wildlife confiscated from the illegal trade
On January 17, Noi Bai Customs officers working in cooperation with the Ha Noi Forest Protection Department uncovered 60 containers carrying more than one ton of common rat snakes as they were being illegally transported by air from Thailand to Vietnam.

On January 20, the traffic police confiscated more than 100 animals including pangolins and porcupines which were being illegally transported in a public bus in Thanh Hoa province. (Vietnamese version)

Two captive tigers die in Thanh Hoa province
Two of seven tigers being illegally kept by a local resident in Thanh Hoa province have recently died. Local authorities have just issued a correspondence instructing that these animals be incinerated. (Vietnamese version)

Villagers making animal glue
Residents from certain villages in the North of Vietnam are earning a living by making animal glue from tigers, macaques, pythons and horses. These villagers not only produce the glue in their homes, but will also come to big cities to make the glue if required by consumers. (Vietnamese version)

Vietnam choking on motorbike exhaust fumes
According to a recent survey by the Motor Registration Agency, up to 60% of motorbikes in Hanoi and 58% motorbikes in Ho Chi Minh city produce exhaust fumes in excess of international standards. Unless stricter measures are taken, air pollution caused by motorbike exhaust fumes in Vietnam will continue to increase. (Vietnamese version)
