Wild animals confiscated from illegal trade
On September 24, local Forest Protection Department officers confiscated two hundred pale-capped pigeons (Columba punicea) as they were being illegally transported in a public bus in Ha Tinh province. All the birds were then released into Ke Go Nature Reserve and the driver was fined a total of 17 million VN dong. (Vietnamese version)

On September 27, investigators from Hoang Long Transport Company discovered 32kg of civets and common rat snakes in one of their buses as it passed through Ha Tinh province. All the animals were released into Ke Go Nature Reserve the following day. (Vietnamese version)

Violators fined for breaking forest management and protection laws
Recently, the Head of Thanh Hoa People’s Committee gave his approval for fines ranging from 40 to 45 million Vietnam dong to be administered to two men found guilty of trading wildlife including wild cuckoos, monitor lizards and turtles. (Vietnamese version)

Eleven new species discovered in Vietnam
Eleven new species, including two butterflies, a snake, five orchids and three other plants which are all exclusive to tropical forests in Vietnam’s Truong Son Mountains, have just been discovered, according to The Word Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
