Escaped bear killed after attacking people
On June 22, a 100-kg bear that injured two people after escaping from its owner was overpowered and shot dead by a police team at Dai Nam Cultural Tourism Park in Thu Dau Mot town.

Potential danger from animals kept in captivity
The recent case of a caged bear attacking its owner has created concerns about the potential dangers involved when animals are kept captive in inadequate breeding facilities and not properly cared for. Unfortunately, such conditions are common in breeding farms in Binh Duong province.

Wild elephants destroy crops in Dac Lac province
Since the beginning of June, close to 40 wild elephants have damaged crops in local area of Ea Sup district, Dac Lac province.

Rhinoceros horns seized

Botanists discover rare orchid threatened by overexploitation
A rare species of slipper orchid, Paphiopedilum callosum, has been found in the Phu Quoc National Park in Kien Giang Province. This species, along with other slipper orchids, is in serious decline due to overexploitation to meet the demands of collectors.

Rock extraction in Ba Den mountain
With approval from local authorities, ten companies are currently extracting rocks from Ba Den mountain, leading to destruction of an area which has been recognized in the past as a national historical and cultural site.

New waste classification system for Hanoi
From July 1, residents in Phan Chu Trinh precinct, Hoan Kiem district, Ha Noi will be required to classify waste in their homes before bringing it to designated collection areas. This is a part of the project ‘3R’ funded by JICA (Japan) to help develop a sustainable society.
