Major tourism project could impact on Tam Dao National Park
Vinh Phuc Provincial People’s Committee and foreign investors are finalizing an agreement that would allow 200 hectares of forest land within Tam Dao National Park to be used for the Tam Dao 2 and Tay Thien Eco-tourism Project. However, the project may impact negatively upon the ecosystem of Tam Dao National Park.

Rangers attacked at forest protection station
Late on 28th May 2007, rangers at a small ranger station belonging to Dak Song forestry company in Dak Nong province, were attacked by local residents. One ranger was soaked with petrol and another two were wounded.

Protective forest damaged by illegal ore exploitation
In Duc Linh district of Binh Thuan province, extensive Wolfram ore exploitation has been shown to increase the risk of landslides & floods during the rainy season, damaging the protective forest in the area.

Two lorises transferred to Cuc Phuong National Park
On 7th June in Hanoi, a resident voluntarily turned over two lorises to Cuc Phuong National Park’s Endangered Primate Rescue Center.

United Nations award goes to Sapa medicinal plant project
A medicinal plant project in Sapa district of Lao Cai Province has just received a prize from the United Nations for outstanding work in the field of environment and global development in 2007.

Domestic elephants in danger of extinction
A recent seminar jointly organized by the Department of Commerce, Dak Lak Tourism Board and the Center for Ecology and Environmental Resources focused on strategies to ensure conservation of the domestic elephant, helping to reduce the risk of extinction of this endangered species.

The Hanoi University of Sciences, Conservation International (CI), Colorado National University (CU) and Frankfurt Zoo Society (FZS) are working together to organize a primate protection training course, to be held in Hanoi from 31st July to 19th August, 2007.
