New postcards promote protection of bears

Hanoi - Education for Nature – Vietnam (ENV) has released two series of postcards (Vietnamese and English) featuring artwork from a 2005-2006 competition, Bring Peace to Vietnam’s Bears.  One series showcases the winning artwork as expressions of emotion.  The other series includes ten informative messages about the bear trade in Vietnam in addition to illustrations from the competition.
ENV plans to distribute the postcards through ENV’s new Save Our Wildlife Volunteer Network and as part of November’s Bring Peace to Vietnam’s Bearsexhibition in Hanoi.

Updates from ENV’s Wildlife Crime Hotline 1800 1522

Hanoi - In late July, ENV’s Wildlife Crime Unit observed a bear bile-advertising signboard at a shop in northern Thanh Xuan district.  Several wine jars containing preserved snakes and monitor lizards were also on display.  Hanoi Forest Protection Department later inspected the shop and removed the signboard.

In mid-August, another advertisement for wildlife products was spotted in Hanoi.  The promotion was listed on a signboard at a restaurant in Dong Da district.  ENV sent a warning letter, along with a copy of Decree 32, which addresses endangered species protection.  The restaurant has since removed the reference to wild species from its signboard
