Hau Giang: Driver apprehended for illegally transporting wildlife
On 11th August, 2008, local rangers apprehended a driver of a van transporting 51kg of snakes and birds, including endangered species listed in group IIB.

Hanoi: Smugglers caught transporting 45 king cobras
On 19th August, 2008, Environmental Police in collaboration with rangers caught three men in the act of illegally transporting 45 king cobras with the total weight of 86kg.

Hai Phong: Man voluntarily releases captive bear
A local man has transferred a bear to the Animals Asia Foundation Bear rescue center in Tam Dao National Park. This is the first case of someone voluntarily tranferring a captive bear to local authorities.

Ho Chi Minh City: Director arrested for illegally exporting timber
On 21st August, 2008, the acting director of a limited company was arrested for smuggling rare and valuable timber. Between March and June of 2007, this man, together with his accomplices, successfully exported 102 containers of timber without paying taxes. Their activities were detected while they were trying to illegally export another ten containers of timber in June 2007.

Quang Nam: Battle against illegal loggers intensifies

Soc Son Rescue Center: Bring peace back to wildlife
Over the course of the last 11 years, Soc Son Rescue Center’s staff have dealt with more than 400 cases, including 24,227 individuals of 100 species, with a total weight of over ten thousand kilograms. Individuals and groups awarded for protecting environment
On 25th August, 2008, 60 groups and individuals were honored for their significant contribution to protecting Vietnam’s environment at a ceremony held in the Hanoi Opera House. One of the outstanding projects recognized was a new techonology which is used for treating oil-spills.
