Hanoi: Police arrest tiger smuggler
On 6th June, 2008, Hoan Kiem District Police conducted a surprise inspection of a local man’s house and discovered a frozen tiger body cut into five pieces. The smuggler admitted he had bought the 190-kilogram animal for 320 million VND at the Cau Treo border crossing in central Ha Tinh province. He had planned to boil down its bones for traditional medicine.

Ha Tinh: Rangers apprehend a coach loaded with nearly one ton of wildlife
In the area of Thach Long Commune, Thach Ha District, mobile rangers recently discovered a coach loaded with 817 kilogram of wildlife, including mainly monitor lizards (Varanus sp.) and turtles.

Thanh Hoa: Illegal hunters prosecuted for attacking rangers
Police of Ngoc Lac District investigating the attack against five rangers on 25th May, 2008 have decided to charge the people involved. Those charged had attacked the rangers after they were caught transporting wildlife.

Leopard Cat kitten transferred to Cuc Phuong National Park
A three and a half-week old Leopard Cat that weighed only 290 grams has been transferred to the Small Carnivore conservation Program in Cuc Phuong National Park (Ninh Binh) by Vinh Phuc Forest Protection Department. This is the first time the center has received this species.

Quang Binh: 150-kilogram sea turtle released
On 5th June, 2008, a sea turtle weighing nearly 150-kilogram was released back into the sea. The animal was bought by a local man from fishermen who had intended on selling it to a restaurant.

Hanoi, Ha Nam: People thirst for clean water
People living on the banks of the Day River (Ha Nam) and the Red River (Hanoi) suffer from lack of clean water for daily use. This is a result of either polluted water sources or delayed resolution from local authorities.

Warning against overuse of plastic bags
It is estimated that there are millions of plastic bags discarded each day after being used in Vietnam. In a recent interview, Mr. Nguyen Trung Viet, Chief of Solid Waste Management Department, Ho Chi Minh Department of Natural Resources and Environment, explained the damage caused to the environment by the use of plastic bags.
